Manitoba Health has changed the benefit status of Dexcom G6 from an Exception Drug Status (EDS) benefit to a Part 2 benefit. This means improved access for patients and reduced workloads for prescribers since an application for EDS coverage is no longer required.

If a patient meets the program eligibility criteria, the physician should write a prescription for Dexcom G6 and refer them to a pharmacy.

The pharmacist will verify their eligibility against the Drug Programs Information Network (DPIN) history to confirm that the client meets the eligibility criteria before submitting a claim to DPIN with an EP exception code (Exception Drug Status Pharmacist Choice).
