A specialist in Endocrinology or Pediatrics must evaluate the need to prescribe a continuous glucose monitoring system for the patient after a consideration of the clinical criteria that necessitate (or contraindicate) the use of continuous glucose monitoring for patients.

Upon evaluation, specialists may simply provide the patient with a prescription for fulfillment at their local pharmacy.
